The Jonas Brothers, flannel, and going to the bathroom alone

Good morrow, Chat!

Summer's coming to an end (should someone tell the sun??? I'm ready for *hot* lattes and flannel) and there's plenty of cute things to do around these parts before we settle into the chaos of the 'ber months.

If you sent kids back to school this week, enjoy going to the bathroom alone and eating a snack out in the open!

Personally, I'll be dreaming of the birria tacos I had in Southlake (more on that below). Am I the only one who gets a thrill from finding a freaking gem of a place in an unexpected spot???

Speaking of unexpected, guess who's going to the Jonas Brothers concert August 31st 🀭 -- it's their hometown show so I'm expecting some epic surprise guests!

And with that I leave you to explore this week's links...

This week's Chat is sponsored by Blue Collar Bros Heating & Air.

Picture this: It's Labor Day weekend, you're excited to eat smoked ribs, chips & queso, drink a ranch water, etc. But you wake up Sunday morning to covered in sweat, hair stuck to the back of your neck.

Your AC decided to take the day off, too. Yikes 😬

Luckily, you don't have to call a corporate, faceless company who won't be back in the office until Tuesday -- you call the guys at BCB and they'll be right out to diagnose the problem.

Even better, they'll bring you a portable A/C unit to use until they get your up and running again.

🀠 Local Lowdown

  • Texas Roadhouse on 287 in Haslet is now open! It's been about a month now (and I've gone 3 times so far) -- I'd say they've got the kinks worked out. Stop in for an early bird dinner around 5pm on weekdays so you beat the crowds.

  • It looks like the Kroger on Bonds Ranch is getting closer to being done! I'm excited to have a proper grocery store around these parts so we don't have to go to Walmart or Targ. Plus, the Kroger delivery service is delightful. Honestly if you aren't getting your groceries delivered yet, are you even living??

  • Like I mentioned, the Jonas Bros are coming to Dallas August 31st and the tickets are pretty affordable! Plus you can get actual seats -- which is perfect because OG JB fans like us are elder millennials and can't physically stand through an entire concert.

πŸ’Ž Hidden Gem of the Week

Why is no one talking about Taco Shop off Carroll in Southlake?! Probably because we only go to Southlake if we really, really have to -- if only to be humbled by all the fancy people trying to run you over with a G Wagon.

We've been a few times and it's always on point. I got the birria tacos (big yes) but it's totally fine if that's not your jam -- everything is so yummy. Try the horchata or aguas frescas (they had pineapple or cantaloupe last time I was there).

πŸš— Worth the Drive

Looking for a greasy spoon diner that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner? Bonus points if there's a table of old people in the corner.

Check out Mel's Place in Boyd -- awesome for breakfast (buffet option on the weekend) or a cheeseburger and fries for lunch.

πŸ“Drop a Pin

Each week, I as the Chat Groupies to submit a review for somewhere cool they checked out recently. Last week, Dillion shared this:

"There's a new coffee place that just opened in Newark. Finally!!!! Love supporting a family-run place in our little town."

✨ Steal My Weekend Plans

  1. Head down to The Modern art museum in the cultural district of FW (you get in free on Fridays!)
  2. Walk over to Maestro Tacos for lunch -- must have a Mexican Coca-Cola with your meal
  3. Head back home and stream Dazed and Confused on Netflix

Good morning, Chat! On my way to Ol'kowski's for coffee this morning, I saw a loose chicken running around the Texaco station. Just a normal day in Newark -- IYKYK. The mornings have actually started to feel like fall this week and I'm here πŸ‘ for πŸ‘ it πŸ‘ Yes I got a pumpkin pie latte. Yes I put my spiced whiskey candle on the warmer. Yes I'm wearing a beanie as I write this. Is it premature? Probably. But cozy season is upon us and we must prepare!!!! This weekend is Labor Day so I'm excited...
